“My first thought as I looked at the table of contents was that I was already a happy person and this book was probably not meant for me. I could not have been more wrong! The first chapter alone generated a great deal of discussion in my family and resulted in positive outcomes for everyone. Every single chapter was thought-provoking and I was able to apply the user friendly advice to many situations and events in my life.
The chapters about establishing a relationship with God encouraged me to revisit my early days of prayer and belief. The advice given and the Bible verses shared are spot-on for new believers – and
“old ones” like myself too.
This book reflects a lifetime of thought, belief and experience. It’s clear, “straight-from-the-heart” style makes it easy for the reader to benefit from every chapter.”

“Are happiness and joy the same? As Benedict explains, joy runs deeper than happiness. It is more profound and longer lasting and comes from being just as excited about and invested in other’s happiness as one’s own. In a practical sense, this means helping others in large ways and small. The ultimate experience of joy, however, comes from a strong and abiding personal relationship with God, the creator of the universe, author of both happiness and joy.

In his book, Benedict offers readers the opportunity to reflect on the ideas presented in each chapter with questions that lead them to think about how they might apply the strategies to their own lives. To get the most benefit from Happiness Doesn’t Just Happen, I would recommend two readings—one to get a general overview of the ideas presented, and a second reading to delve deeper by thinking about and answering the questions posed at the end of each chapter. This book would lend itself well to small group discussion.
I recommend this book to anyone looking to increase the happiness and joy in his or her life.”
